ART

For over 20 years Henry Ferrini has produced films focusing on the place Jack Kerouac calls "the great continent of New England." His first film was produced in 1978 with a CETA grant from the Carter administration. He went on to produce Poem in Action, what the San Francisco Film Festival called a "heartfelt glimpse into the life of a poet." Ferrini and team followed with the award-winning, Radio Fishtown, a documentary about the last remaining one man radio station operator in the country.

In the 90's collaborating with Picture Business Productions in NYC, the filmmakers produced Witch City, a darkly humorous tale of Salem, Massachusetts. Here a Disneyesque version of 17th Century American history is served up and consumed by the unwitting tourists. Ferrini also collaborated with the Picture Business partners Joe Cultrera and Bob Quinn on Leather Soul, a portrayal of the leather tanning industry in Peabody, Massachusetts. Leather Soul aired nationally on PBS and was called "a sterling example of rescuing working people's history."

Another unique example of New England cultural history is Ray Parsons, Blacksmith, the story of a Blacksmith in this unlikely seaside setting.

Who is Sylvia? is an unfinished film about a Boston camp icon, Sidney Sushman aka, Sylvia Sidney.

Keeping with Beantown iconography, Loco in Euzkadi documents the French/Spanish tour of the God-Father of Punk, Willie Loco Alexander.

Sandy's Jazz and Blues Revival hosted some of the most incredible musical talent on Boston's Northshore. Take a trip back to Sandy's in 1983 and listen to Big Joe Turner, Larry Coryell and Tiny Grimes.

FPI's most recent opus remembers the place Jack Kerouac could not forget. Lowell Blues fuses visual history, language and jazz into a film poem illuminating Kerouac's childhood home - a place where "memory and dream are intermixed..."
