KNOW FISH

Know Fish

One, two three, four, five,
Once I caught a fish alive.
Six, seven, eight, nine, ten,
Then I let it go again.
Why did you ever let it go?
Because it bit my finger so.

The child's rhyme above could easily be the high concept log line of our feature length screenplay Know Fish. This parable set in contemporary Gloucester, Massachusetts, pits small-town working folks who refuse to lie down for the bulldozer of so-called progress, against predatory bottom line property developers bent on bringing order and elegance to a hard scrabble waterfront.

Know Fish is loosely based on our PBS-aired documentary that writing partner, Ken Riaf, a former commercial fisherman out of Gloucester, and I then adapted to the feature screen form. The script was a finalist in the Massachusetts Film Office screen writing contest and showed second place at the Nantucket Film Festival script competition.

The story has the scope of the open ocean and the intimacy of small town New England. Gloucester, stalwart and serene, has been the backdrop for many stories. In Know Fish it tells its own tale.

Know Fish is in search of a producer. A prominent independent producer, to whom I'll grant anonymity, has agreed to executive produce, and I am currently and actively seeking financing for this film. Budget information is available on request.
